3 DIY Face Masks For Acne Prone Skin

I live by the notion of not putting anything on my skin that I wouldn't want inside of my body. This stems from the fact that your skin is your largest organ and absorbs anything that you put on it.

Commercial skin products often contain products such as parabens, that have been proven to be destructive to our hormones and to cause fertility issues. Some contain triclosan which has been linked to breast cancer, endocrine disruption and weakened muscle function. As someone who suffers from an hormonal imbalance I try and avoid anything that could make it worse.

A lot of times making my own products is the only way to be 100% sure of what I'm putting on my body. So I've decided to share my favorite face masks that have made a significant change to my skin, much better than what I've ever experienced with store bought products.  

Turmeric and honey Turmeric contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties which target pores and calm down your skin.  Honey is also loaded with antioxidants, enzymes and nutrients that cleanses, exfoliates and hydrates skin leaving you glowing. Both help improve both acne and scarring.

 - 1 tsp turmeric

 - 1/2 tsp honey

- 1/2 tsp lemon juice

Honey and green tea Honey is also an powerful antibacterial and anti-fungal. It fights bacteria that cause breakouts. Green tea prevent cell damage, reduces irritation, inflammation and protect against the free radicals that cause acne. Green tea has also been proven to reduce sebum over time, preventing acne in the long run.

- 1 steeped green tea bag's leaves

- 1 tsp honey

Bentonite clay and raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar This deep pore cleansing mask is great for pimples and blackheads. Its electric charge allows it to attract and absorb toxins, heavy metals, and other impurities. Apple cider vinegar is a natural exfoliant, balances your skin's PH and fights the bacteria that causes pimples and inflammation.

- 1 tsp bentonite clay

- 1 tsp raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar

- 1 tsp water
